Colin Darnell
Colin Darnell is a senior manager with over 30 years’ experience in the insurance industry. He joined CMS from Groupama Insurance, where he was Group Compliance Officer. The Group included four insurance intermediaries.
Colin started his career as an underwriter with Prudential Assurance and Eagle Star before joining Federal Mutual Insurance as an Inspector. This soon developed into a Regional Manager position where Colin honed his skills in agency management.
Colin joined Lombard General Insurance in 1986 and moved from Birmingham Regional Manager into a series of Head Office roles including Corporate Planning Quality and Complaints. Colin also guided Lombard to ISO 9000 accreditation. Following the formation of Groupama Insurance, Colin managed the company’s transition from compliance with the ABI General Business Code of Practice, through GISC regulation, and finally to authorisation and supervision by the FSA. As Group Compliance Manager, Colin oversaw the project to implement new systems to meet the FSA regulatory requirements, including risk management, internal capital assessment process, business continuity planning, systems & controls, corporate governance processes and a separate conduct of business implementation plan. He was also a member of the Groupama Due Diligence team that successfully led to three major intermediary purchases in 2006/7.
Colin is a qualified Associate of the Chartered Insurance Institute and a Chartered Insurer.
